
I took the photo myself, I saw the flower, and still i have a hard time believing it's a tulip. I guess when you see something from the same angle often enough...
There's something reminiscent of Lily#2 in the colors and composition, and yet there's something unique and 'candid' about it, to quote Stella, like the flower was caught in an embarrassing pose.

It does look caught off guard and I agree, my first though was that it did not look like a tulip. Have you read the chapter on tulips in Michael Pollan's book The Botany of Desire? It cast a whole new light on a flower that I had always thought of as rather ordinary.
